This is a view of Niagara Falls from Canada (which, in all honesty, is the best
place to view the Falls). To the left is the American Falls, and to the right
is the Canadian (Horseshoe) Falls. Somewhere in there is also the little-known
Bridal Veil Falls. Separating the two waterfalls is Goat Island, an excellent place
to picnic or walk (or bike) around.
The neatest thing about being at the state park, looking at that water falling, is the fact that a zillion negative ions are generated which produces a happy feeling within. (I've felt it myself, so I know it's not hooey.) Also, those ions generate some sort of static field that causes strands of hair to stand straight up. I noticed it once while with a group of friends and we just walked around the Falls, hysterically laughing at everyone's hair standing up.
Oh, yeah, right off the right side of the picture, just next to the Canadian edge of the Horseshoe Falls, was where many scenes for Superman 2 (I think . . .?) were filmed (as is a great little store that used to provide me with the most excellent candy bars in existence, Coffee Crisp). My dad met Christopher Reeve at the time. Pretty cool, we all thought. That's also where an episode of "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues" was filmed (the one where the son was framed for murder). Yes, on the Canadian side, probably because the scenery is nicer, and it's much cheaper to film in Canada. :)
I lived in Niagara Falls up until late March, 1994 (that's when this photo was taken). My parents are still there, as are my two brothers. For another look at the Falls, you'd be well advised to look at this lovely watercolour painting. The title is "View of Niagara Falls from the American side" and the artist's name is Albert Bierstadt.
