pins and needles
(More talking about the house stuff.)
Still waiting for word. It's entirely possible that the payoff figures were lower than estimated, especially the one from the EMC™*, so we might still be okay for the deal to go through (with the appraisal being lower than expected). The underwriters for the loan were apparently supposed to examine everything this weekend and I was supposed to have word yesterday, but didn't, so I need to call today. (Which, as y'all know, is my favourite thing to do.
NOT.)
*=Which, by the way, I may yet take off the "Evil" part of that moniker, because the turnaround time on the payoff figure was only 5 days, as opposed to a month like the previous time we tried to get the mortgage refinanced. (Unless they
don't halt the whole sale process, in which case they will be Supreme Evil™.) We tried calling the "Executive" hotline number on Saturday morning, but just sat on hold for a half-hour. We also tried the Customer Service number, and the CS person (much better manners than previous) gave us a phone number for the "Loan Resolution" center. They were closed for the day, so we need to try it during the week. They're in Mountain Time though, so it makes for very weird hours here in my time zone.
On the same subject, I got a weird notice also that unless the property tax payments were brought current, they would have no choice but to consider the loan defaulted. WTF? Did they not notice they're currently trying to
foreclose? And and, when we checked out our loan status on the new website, all of the mysterious charges and fees are still listed on the payment history… but have been all zeroed out. It just keeps getting weirder.
Probably not unrelated is the fact that I've got acid creeping up to the top of my throat. Hello, Ranitidine.
Anyway. I'm excited for my trip next weekend… Working on a specal present for the baby. I'll post pics after the fact. :D
By the way, the soundtrack to
Monsoon Wedding rocks my socks.

did you miss me?
It's been what feels like a long while since I posted.
Not much has changed in the last week and a half. Appraisal came back, and the house appraised higher than a year ago, but not high enough to meet our estimate numbers. Things are still being worked on.
Bizarrely I received a statement in the mail from the EMC™ — this is bizarre becuase I haven't gotten one in months and months (probably close to nine). It's curiously blank except for the principal balance, which looks startlingly correct (i.e. not all kinds of heaped-on fees and charges). This coupled with finding out that the EMC™'s management staff has been gutted and replaced, and an "Executive Hotline" phone number established for people who have complaints against the company (
::raises hand!::)… Could be this was prompted by, oh, I don't know,
the federal government stepping in and investigating. I'm feeling a lot more optimistic.
The reunion picnic has been cancelled, but
the wonderful family who adopted our
former foster daughter have generously invited me to their home for the second weekend in August so that I can celebrate her first birthday in this country with them. I was flattered beyond words. There are in fact angels on earth.
And then my roommate asked if I wanted to attend the Twin Peaks convention with her the weekend following that one, up in northern Washington. Buh! Seems the friends she went with last year can't attend, and she's got these two tickets that she won. Suddenly I'm going all over the place! Whee!!!
Had another doctor's appointment (nothing's wrong, it was just time for a check-up). Weighed in in the 130s. I am a happy, happy girl. (I am however going to cheat on the Twin Peaks weekend because, yo, cherry pie.)
Life is getting better and better all the time.

same old same old
- As mentioned previously, new café computer for the counter (i.e., me!). With gorgeous flat panel monitor. Finally got it swapped out with our other (faithful, hearty, but old) computer on Thursday night. The only drawback is that it's still not a Mac. ;)
- Still waiting on word regarding the house situation. The appraisal went well, at least I hope it did, since I haven't heard the results of the appraisal. I suppose I should equate no news with good news, since surely if the appraisal didn't hit our minimum mark, we'd be scrambling for Plan B… right? Time is running out, and I'm getting nervous. I will likely call and see what's up, but god, I hate calling and asking,
Hey, what's up? There's one final thing — think of it as Plan Z — that can be done to prevent them taking the house away altogether, but I'd prefer not to do it if at all possible.
- I'm wearing size 10 pants now! I realized that I needed to, er, 'downsize' when I almost fell and was prevented from hitting the ground by being grabbed by the seat of my jeans. It's been interesting, having to readjust my mental self-body-image to smaller. I look at these pants, or the shirt my roommate just gave me and I still think,
There's no way I'm getting that on me! And then I do.
- There's a wildfire burning just east of town (likely cause: a campfire that was not properly extinguished. Gr.) and the resultant smoke is wreaking havoc with my sinuses. I know, that's the least of one's concerns when it comes to a wildfire, but it is annoying.

I survived A/W War…
…barely. ;)
It was a long weekend, lots of work, too little sleep, site too dusty and hot (thank goodness for shade), yurt misbehaved (roof poles wouldn't stay up). But, got to meet some cool people from CA (one of whom called me a "babe", *blush*), show off some handiwork, and have fun. Even if I couldn't keep my eyes open past midnight.
We got home on Sunday to find that the appraiser person wanted to stop by on Monday. And us with a serious case of tourney house. We cleaned up pretty quickly.
And now I have a head cold or some stupid bug. Bleh.
Of course, the new computer for Admin here at the café arrived one hour before I had to leave for the weekend. It's been a week and I still don't have it up and running. That's next on my agenda, after this post. :D
Happiness is: My roommate gave me a shirt she accidentally shrunk (linen, sized M) and didn't fit her any more. I took it, eyed it warily, and figured I'd never fit into that itty bitty shirt. I guess I need to reevaluate my mental image of myself and my bodily dimensions because I'm wearing it now. Two customers also commented on my "too baggy" jeans. Too cool!

busy!
According to a horoscope I read a few weeks ago from an astrologer I don't really even know, July 1st (today) is supposed to be a lucky… nay,
profitable day. Let's see if that pans out. (I won't hold my breath.)
Getting ready to camp with
3000 of my closest friends, so pardon me if I'm a bit quiet. :)
is
this just not enough…?
